Today, Electrical Engineering is at the forefront of the newest technology. The discipline has moved beyond wires and circuits into cutting-edge technology.
The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering was established in 2002 with an intake of 60 and the number was increased to 90 in 2009. The department is also offering M. Tech (Power Electronics & Electrical Drives) from the academic year 2008 – 2009 with an intake of 18. The department is headed by Prof. D Shobha Rani, with vast Industrial and Teaching experience and is ably supported by 17 faculty members maintaining 1:14 ratio out of which two are with Ph. D qualification and eight are with P.G. qualification. In addition, the department is supported by four non-teaching staff.
This program has been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2009.
The department has very well established Air-Conditioned Laboratories with sophisticated equipment supplementing the academic needs of the students. Some of the laboratories are:
1. Electrical Networks (Airconditioned)
2. Measurements (Airconditioned)
3. Control Systems (Airconditioned)
4. Electrical Machines (Airconditioned)
5. Power Electronics (Airconditioned)

Electrical Technical Association (ETA) is a students' body for conducting career developing, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of students. It organizes Seminars, Quiz Programmes, Industrial Visits, Paper Contests, Group Discussions, Guest Lectures, Career Guidance, Games etc under its auspices.
The students are encouraged to present papers and to participate in seminars conducted in other engineering colleges. Industrial tours are arranged for students to obtain an exposure to industries.
IEEE Students' chapter and ISTE chapter are formed. A variety of academic activities are conducted under the auspices of these chapters. Two IEEE journals are subscribed, apart from subscribing to on-line digital access of all journals. Alumni Chapter is in existence. The department interacts with them and gets feedback with regard to academic, placements etc. matters. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities of the department.
M. Tech (Power Electronics & Electrical Drives),a two year full time postgraduate programme with an intake of 18, duly approved by AICTE, was started in the academic year 2008-09.
This course deals with the state of the art techniques in system-level modeling analysis, design and integration of motor drives. The course also covers advanced topics in micro processors and micro controllers which are very much needed for today's Power Electronics engineer. Projects of practical relevance are to be taken up by every student during third and fourth semesters.
The course provides a sound foundation to pursue a career in system-level modeling analysis, design and integration of motor drives, through a diverse range of theoretical skills and practical experience, presented in the context of real applications and design experience. Instrumentation is the heart of any industry and sophisticated process control and guidance techniques are essential in modern days. This program enriches the students in different spheres of instrumentation and control industries. It enables students to pursue a career in the measurement and control of complex industrial & electrical process.
